FDA Approves Ryzumvi Eye Drops for Presbyopia

The FDA has approved Ryzumvi eye drops to treat presbyopia in adults, according to a press release from Viatris, which markets the product.

Ryzumvi is a prescription eye drop containing 0.75% phentolamine ophthalmic solution. It is intended to improve near vision in adults with presbyopia, an age-related condition that makes focusing on close objects difficult.

The medication was approved in 2023 to treat pharmacologically induced mydriasis, or pupil dilation, in adults and children ages 3 years or older.

Ryzumvi is not recommended for patients with active eye inflammation, such as iritis. To reduce the risk for eye injury or contamination, patients should avoid touching the vial tip to the eye or any other surface, according to the release.
