Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston is once again the best US hospital for psychiatric care, according to the US News & World Report’s latest ranking of best hospitals for psychiatry.
McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, holds the number two spot in the 2025-2026 rankings, the same as last year.
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital — Columbia and Cornell in New York City holds the number three spot in psychiatric care this year, followed by Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore at number four, Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA at number five, and Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, at number six. These rankings remain unchanged from last year.
The only change in this year’s rankings is at number seven, where UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh replaced UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center.
The seven hospitals ranked “Best” in psychiatry or psychiatric care were recommended by at least 5% of the psychiatric specialists responding to US News & World Report surveys in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Another 26 hospitals were recommended by at least 1% of the respondents.
Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled in clinical outcomes, nursing care quality, and patient safety best practices.
Other “high-performing” hospitals for psychiatry include NYU Langone Hospitals in New York City; UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center; Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Sheppard Pratt Hospital, both in Baltimore; Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto, California; The Menninger Clinic, Houston; Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston; and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.

As in prior years, in 2025 US News & World Report also recognized “honor roll” hospitals that have excelled across multiple areas of care. There are 20 this year, listed in alphabetical order:
