Open-angle glaucoma (OAG) was associated with a “modest” but significant risk for early-onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in middle-aged adults, particularly in men, a new study showed.
METHODOLOGY:
- A case-control study used 2006-2022 data from a Japanese administrative claims database for adults aged 40-64 years. The analysis included more than 2000 patients with early-onset AD who were matched 4:1 with more than 9300 control individuals without AD (both groups, mean age, 58 years; 53.5% men).
